Driving Theory Exam in Poland: Questions, Points, Time
How the Polish driving theory exam works: 32 questions, 25 minutes, 74 points and a 68-point pass mark. See how many mistakes you can make.

The driving theory exam in Poland consists of 32 questions, lasts 25 minutes and has one strict threshold: at least 68 points out of 74. If you know exactly how points are counted and how much time you have for each question, it is easier to decide what to focus on while studying. Below are the rules set out in the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of 24 November 2023 (Journal of Laws 2023, item 2659).
How many questions are there and where do they come from?
The exam contains 32 questions:
- 20 basic knowledge questions, common to all driving licence categories,
- 12 specialist knowledge questions, related to the category you are taking (e.g. B).
The system draws questions at random from the official exam question bank. Each question has only one correct answer. Most questions include a picture or a short video showing a situation on the road.
YES/NO questions and A, B, C questions
The two parts differ in the answer format and the time allowed:
- Basic knowledge: you choose "YES" or "NO". First you have 20 seconds to read the question (and watch the video or look at the picture), then 15 seconds to answer.
- Specialist knowledge: you choose one of three answers: A, B or C. You have 50 seconds in total to read the question and answer it.
You can change your answer until you move on to the next question. You cannot go back to a question that has already passed, or to one you did not answer.
Scoring: 3, 2 and 1 point
Questions have different values, depending on how important they are for road safety:
- 3 points: a question of high importance for road safety,
- 2 points: a question of medium importance,
- 1 point: a question of low importance for road safety or traffic order.
The distribution of points is always the same:
| Part | 3 pts | 2 pts | 1 pt | Total points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic (20 questions) | 10 | 6 | 4 | 46 |
| Specialist (12 questions) | 6 | 4 | 2 | 28 |
| Whole exam (32 questions) | 16 | 10 | 6 | 74 |
How many mistakes can you make?
To pass, you need at least 68 points. This means you can lose no more than 6 points. Examples:
- two mistakes in 3-point questions: 74 − 6 = 68, you pass,
- one mistake worth 3 pts, one worth 2 pts and one worth 1 pt: 68, you pass,
- three mistakes in 2-point questions: 68, you pass,
- three mistakes in 3-point questions: 65, you fail,
- four mistakes in 2-point questions: 66, you fail.
The riskiest questions are therefore the 3-point ones: just two mistakes there use up your entire margin. These are the questions most important for safety, so do not skip any topic you get wrong while studying.
How long does the exam last and how does it work?
The exam lasts 25 minutes (40 minutes for persons entitled under the Polish Sign Language Act). If you take the exam for several categories at once, you complete a full test for each of them.
According to the description published by WORD (Provincial Road Traffic Centre, Wojewódzki Ośrodek Ruchu Drogowego), the exam has several stages:
- The examiner checks your identity on the basis of a valid document and shows you the computer workstation drawn by the system. Check that the details on the screen are yours.
- You read the instructions for the exam system: how to select and change an answer and how to play a video.
- You take a practice exam, which does not affect the result.
- You take the actual state exam.
- The result and the number of points scored are shown on the screen.
- If you fail, you can review the questions you answered incorrectly.
You can take the theory exam in English, German or Ukrainian. Ukrainian is available for categories B and B1, and from 16 February 2026 also for C and C1.
How to prepare?
- Study with the official question bank. Exam questions are drawn from it. Zeryt.pl uses questions from this very bank.
- Practise against the clock. 15 seconds for a YES/NO answer goes by quickly. Get used to making your decision after the first look at the situation.
- Understand the rules instead of memorising answers. The same rules come back in many questions with different pictures and videos. Read the explanations for questions you get wrong.
- Go back to your mistakes. Repeat the questions you answered incorrectly more often until they stop causing problems.
- Take full practice exams. 32 questions with real scoring will show you whether you regularly score above 68 points or are on the edge.
